This is my debut album, something that only happens once. All things that come after will become one thing or another, but there is something very special about your debut as an artist. I recorded this album in the autumn of 2012, after leaving the city and retreating to a social farm south of Calgary, The Saskatoon Farm. This was the place I came to feel comfortable with the idea of being a solo artist, and all the vulnerabilities that could come with it, even though at the time I really had no idea what this would entail. I wasn't really sure what I was getting at, or what I wanted to create from the macro perspective of this project, I was only following what felt good and right in the moment. This was my practice, my exploration of self, discovery of the textures which made up the layers of my reality. Dan Guiry told me to put a little teal on it... I had been messing around with a vintage LINNDRUM, an analog drum machine from the early 80's, and a vintage KORG LAMBDA synthesizer, an analog synth organ from 1979. This shaped the sound greatly, I wasn't pursuing any particular aesthetic, more so just using whatever gear I had. I didn't know I was recording an album until I had completed 6 songs and realized there was something coming together, perhaps something worth sharing, not necessarily because I felt it might have relevance to anyone aside from myself, but I felt compelled to, and deemed it important for my journey.
